The Canyon Spectral Mullet, a 150mm travel mountain bike that is exclusively coil-sprung, is now available in a K.IS. model featuring steering-stabilization technology developed by Syntace. The “Keep It Stable” contraption is a self-centering device for your steerer tube, utilizing two coil springs, straps (ultra-strong polymer fiber bands) and a cam that couples the device securely to your steerer via clamping. It lives inside the bike’s top tube, with only the mounting points and spring pre-load adjustment visible from the outside.

For now, only the Canyon Spectral bikes benefit from K.I.S., though we did see Troy Brosnan’s Sender rocking one at Lenzerheide World Cup earlier this year.

Our EU Tech Editor, Cory Benson, has some thoughts on how the K.I.S. changes the ride feel, based on his experience aboard the Canyon Spectral 29. At launch, only that dedicated 29″ platform benefited from the steering-stabilizer, and it was offered only to customers in Europe. Now, the Canyon Spectral Mullet K.I.S. gets it, too… and it’s yours for $4,699 USD.

The Canyon Spectral Mullet K.I.S. is $500 more expensive than the CF 8 CLLCTV model (reviewed here) which is sans K.I.S. That said, the two build kits differ considerably in departments of suspension, wheels and drivetrain. Without further ado, here’s what you get for your $4,699 USD // 4,999 €…

  • Carbon Frame (ASTM Category 4) with 150mm Rear Wheel Travel
  • 160mm RockShox Lyrik Select+ Fork
  • RockShox Super Deluxe Coil Select+ Shock
  • SRAM GX Eagle AXS with 10-52T Cassette (Replaced by GX Transmission for Customers in Europe)
  • DT Swiss EX511 Rims with 370 LN Ratchet Hubset
  • Maxxis Assegai Front and DHRII (EXO+ MaxxTerra) Rear Tires
  • SRAM 4-piston Code R 4-Piston Brakes and Centerline Rotors

If this Canyon steering-stabilizer is so great, why did Troy Brosnan bin the one he had on his race bike?
