After two years of Fabio Wibmer teasing us with alloy, then carbon prototypes and garage unboxing sneak peeks, Canyon’s new lightweight Stitched CFR Trial carbon street trials bike is here, and ready to ship to your door. Yes, it’s a CFR carbon frameset, and uses a new-to-Canyon aerospace-derived HIT composite tech that is said to be 30% more durable than aluminum.

This new Stitched CFR Trial isn’t the first time we’ve seen the German direct-to-consumer bike company build a special trials bike for Austrian all-around mountain biker Fabio Wibmer.  Canyon says Wibmer said he wanted to “Redefine what’s possible. Change the game.” when they sat down to develop a next-gen trials bike a little over two years ago.

We got a first sneak peek at the project when he joined Canyon’s team in 2020 with an alloy test mule prototype, then a closer look and full breakdown last winter of the latest carbon version.

But, now it’s real.

And you can actually get your own!

Canyon says the Stitched CFR Trial’s secret sauce is “a top-secret material, usually reserved for the aerospace industry” that their engineers incorporated into the new High Impact Technology (HIT) Composite layup to build a bombproof street trials bike to survive repeated “impacts, crashes and bails”. The result is a lighter, stiffer 1700g frame & matching CFR fork built to withstand street trials abuse.

They say the Stitched CFR Trial has been “extensively tested and proven to be over 30% more durable than its aluminum competitors”. The bike gets Boost thru-axles, a threaded BSA bottom bracket & 27.2mm seatpost.

Nothing fancy with geometry though, it’s a tried-and-tested on-size fit & handling that will feel familiar to anyone hucking from one trials obstacle to the next.
