Citec 6000 CX Carbon Wheel Set For Tubulars With Replaceable Braking Surface

German wheel manufacturer Citec has released a carbon wheelset with a replaceable aluminum braking surface. According to Citec this “protects the carbon rim from premature brake wear and improves heat dispersion.” And when the braking surface does wear out (not-so-prematurely) it can be replaced at the factory.

As the folks at Citec say the old saying goes: “Last one to brake is a chicken!”

Wait…that makes no sense, wouldn’t the chicken brake first, while the not-chicken would brake last? Maybe it’s a lost in translation thing. Maybe in Germany the chicken or “huhn” is a totally bad-ass animal.

I don’t know, but I do know that there are photos, specs, and weights after the break…

Front wheel 28″: 12 spokes, 610 grams

• 50 mm deep carbon rim with aluminium braking surface and internal nipples for increased aerodynamic efficiency.
• 3 part hub silver/black anodised with maximum flange width for increased lateral stiffness, sealed cartridge supersmooth bearings and 12 black blade spokes.

Rear wheel 28″: 16 spokes, 780 grams

• 50 mm deep carbon rim with aluminium braking surface and internal nipples for increased aerodynamic efficiency.
• 16 dedicated black blade spokes
• Dedicated 2 part black/silver super smooth rear hub with sealed cartridge bearings and aerodynamically optimised Hyper Size flange
• DT 240S cassette hub system for Shimano 8/9/10-speed or Campagnolo 10/11-speed (surcharge applies)
• extremely high lateral stiffness

Wheel set 28″: 12/16 spokes, 1390 grams


The front wheel has only 12 “dedicated” black bladed spokes but Citec assures us that: “Despite the low spoke count, this wheel set is extremely strong and super light.”

The braking surface is replaceable at the factory.


The rear wheel has 16 bladed spokes laced to a DT 240 S hub.
