Close Encounters with the Animal Kind – Cyclist Hits Kangaroo?

Kangaroo

Not being from Australia, Kangaroos are sort of a mystery. Outside of a zoo, it seems the only time we get to experience the weird creatures with a pouch is when they are boxing each other in the street, or beating up a talk show host. Well, it appears they have it out for cyclists as well. While on a recent ride through Canberra Bronwyn Calver, a former Australian cricketer, was broadsided by a kangaroo just outside of the Capitol Circle.

Other than a few cuts and bruises, Bronwyn was OK and credits many motorist with stopping to make sure she was all right.

Apparently the kangaroo came off 2nd best as it was hit and killed by another car further up the road. We don’t usually see kangas in the city but plenty of them in the bush when mtb’ing. Had some very close calls as they cut across the track on my front wheel.

didn’t we just see a vid recently where a deer shot up from the side of the road? maybe i saw it on another web sight.

The problem is they usually travel in mobs and its not the first one you have to worry about. It’s its mates that follow that are usually the ones you hit.
