Typically clothing articles are more or less an overview of key specs and details, but once in a while there’s something more to say about a specific piece: Rarely does a jersey have the kind of story behind it that Rapha’s Namibia Team edition can claim. After going viral at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Dan Craven brought a lot of attention to his home country and got consumers begging for a jersey just like his. Well, now you can get one as Rapha is offering a limited edition of the Namibia Team jersey.
Rapha has also honored their US champion cyclocross racers with some stars and stripes, plus in this roundup we’ll check out a new insulated jacket from Rapha and Twin Six’s NWRC Sawtooth cold-weather jersey/vest combo…
Rapha
Earlier this month Rapha released a new insulated jacket called the Brevet. The jacket is very lightweight and its Polartec Alpha insulation allows you to breathe once you’ve warmed up. The Alpha insulation also dries quickly and won’t retain water, and the Brevet uses a DWR coating to keep rain from soaking in. Rapha says this jacket is an ideal choice for longer rides or when you’re facing changing weather conditions.
The jacket’s stretchy side panels ensure it will fit over a jersey, even with full pockets. When not needed the Brevet can be rolled up and secured in a compact bundle via an elastic loop built in at the neck. The Brevet jacket is sold in black or grey, and sizes XS-XL are available for the price of $185 USD.
When you have two US National Champion CX racers on your roster, you just gotta boast a bit with a star spangled jersey. To celebrate team members Jeremy Powers and Ellen Noble’s titles, Rapha created men’s and women’s US National Champion Edition jerseys adorned in the red, white and blue. Unfortunately neither are available to consumers at this point, but if you’re watching the races look out for these athletes sporting the jerseys shown above.
If you like interesting back stories, you might prefer Rapha’s limited edition Namibia jersey. Namibia’s Dan Craven, or “Dan from Nam’ as you may know him, made quite a splash on the internet during the 2016 Rio Olympic games, thanks to his girlfriend tweeting reports during his road race and a last-minute entry into the TT – which he then raced on his road bike.
Craven has been riding for Rapha since 2009, so they were asked to design the Namibia team jerseys for Rio. The Namibia Pro Team Aero Jersey is an elite performance jersey with a stretch-fabric body, mesh sleeves, locking zipper and three rear pockets. It sells for $160, and comes in sizes XS-XXL.
Twin Six
Twin Six has just released a new thermal long sleeve jacket and wind vest combo called NWRC Sawtooth. The long sleeve Sawtooth jersey is USA-made from 100% soft-touch Micro Polyester with a breathable fleeced inner lining. This jersey features a full front zipper and three rear pockets for storage, but otherwise keeps its design pretty simple. The jersey comes in orange/black only, with sizes S-3XL available. MSRP is $115.
For really chilly days, the NWRC Sawtooth Wind Vest fits over the long sleeved jersey to keep your core up to temperature. The vests’ front section is made from a lightweight, wind-proof ripstop fabric, and the rear features a perforated micro-denier material for ventilation. The full-length zipper has dual-direction pull tabs, and Twin Six kept this vest slim and trim with no rear pockets. The NWRC Sawtooth vest comes in unisex sizes S-XL, and in Orange/Black only. Retail price is $75.
