Continental shakes up their long-running line-up of cross-country MTB tires with new Dubnital, Trinotal & Magnotal replacing their classic Race, Cross & Mountain Kings. Beyond simply renaming a bunch of decades-old mountain bike classics, the three new Continental MTB tires tweak or completely reshape their tread block design, update their casings & rubber, and adopt Continental’s simple but clear new labeling system.

With 3 new mountain bike tires, Continental sets out to reshape their grip on XC, down-country, and all-mountain trail riding. Their Race King, Cross King & Mountain King tire designs have sat mostly unchanged in the line-up for decades. So, a complete shake-up was done in order to adapt to more modern mountain biking. While the new Dubnital retains much of the iconic Race King’s fast rolling speed, the Trinotal and Magnotal present all-new blocky treads that significantly improve performance and grip over their predecessors.

All 3 get tweaked or all-new tread block designs, adding more edges and more advanced siping for improved grip. Then, Continental also updated each to the latest Trail and Race casings we’ve seen applied on either extreme, with Conti’s most-recent enduro/DH and gravel tires. And finally, they feature the latest Grip and Rapid rubber we detailed on the recent Terra Adventure launch.

Plus, with simple and consistent labeling, they now provide a smoother transition into the popular Conti Gravity family, and can even be mixed-and-matched with the Xynotal, Kryptotal, Argotal & Hydrotal for more demanding trail conditions.

Dubnital is the ‘Master of Speed’

“Dubnital is engineered for dry to damp conditions and is ideal for rocky, hardpack, and medium-loose soils. It is built to meet the needs of XC and downcountry riders who demand maximum speed. A direct successor to the beloved ‘Race King’, Dubnital takes performance to the next level with its cutting-edge tread and advanced rubber compounds. The result? Unmatched efficiency, grip and control at high speeds.”

Trinotal is built to ‘Control the Terrain’

Replacing the popular ‘Cross King’, Trinotal conquers the unpredictable challenges of modern trail riding with precision and control.”

Magnotal is said to ‘Dominate Wherever You Ride’

“Magnotal is built for aggressive all-mountain and trail riders seeking the perfect balance between performance and control. It thrives in dry to wet conditions, handling hard, loose, and muddy soils with ease. As the direct successor to the ‘Mountain King’, this all-rounder tire bridges the gap between gravity and XC/DC riding, setting a new standard for versatility. Magnotal offers exceptional grip for riders pushing their limits on the most challenging terrain.”

“With the introduction of Dubnital, Trinotal, and Magnotal, we are proud to complete the overhaul of our MTB lineup, finally replacing our iconic ‘Kings.’ The new models now seamlessly fit into the nomenclature and logic of our Gravity range tires, and give riders the freedom to use our portfolio as a playground to create their perfect setup. We’ve tested these tires with gold-medal-winning athletes to ensure they perform at the highest level—now it’s your turn to push their limits. While our technology has already been proven in the world of gravity, we’re excited to see how riders take them to new heights across other disciplines.”

Let’s hope they keep making 26-inch tires for classic mtb.

Still no fast compound 52 or 50mm (or any compound) for gravel bikes in the Dubnital.

Hopefully he’ll test these new versions for rolling resistance. I already have a pair of the old ones waiting to be mounted, though, so I’m set for this year!.

I clicked over on the Conti site and it confirms a 29 x 2.4 Dubnital. This is big news if it retains the performance characteristics of the Race King.

I like Conti tires, but what’s up with the naming?

They seem to be influenced by the pharmaceutical industry or something

2.4 Race Kings, finally! And still reasonably light. Will be fun to try these against the pirelli

The branding / naming is awful, who thought that was a good idea? The treads though look great, but it also seems like they’ve trimmed the size range down to exclude the already under-represented sizes like 26″, 27.5+ and 29+ that the -King versions supported. Very disappointing all around. Hopefully the limited sizes are just temporary while they spool up production but I’m not holding my breath.
