Lezyne and Topeak are battling it out on several fronts. From multitools to tubeless repair kits, hand pumps and more, both are hustling to bring us ever more compact and versatile tools for trail-side repairs. We caught up with their UK distributors at the CORE Bike show in Towcester, England. Here are some of Lezyne’s latest offerings, including their new RAP II 13 and 20 tubeless multitools. We also take a quick look at some of the more interesting items on show including the CNC Tubeless Drive Hand Pump that incorporates a hidden tubeless repair kit, and the handlebar-stowed Tool Insert Kits for flat and drop-bar riders alike. See what’s new from Topeak here.

Lezyne RAP II Tubeless Multitools

Lezyne has released two new pocket-size multitools that include the tools necessary for a trail-side tubeless repair; the Lezyne RAP II Tubeless. There are two to choose from. The 13 function RAP II is home to Hex 2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 8, Torx 10, 25 and 30, a flat head and Philips screwdrivers, as well as a tubeless plugger and plug carrier housing two plugs.

The 20-function RAP II Tubeless boasts all of the above (except the flat head) in addition to a chain-breaker module that incorporates SW-0 to SW-3 spoke wrenches, open hex wrenches (8-10mm) and a valve core tool. It also houses a C02 inflator head. This one weighs a claimed 180g.

Lezyne Tool Insert Kit Multitool and Tubeless Repair

These tools hide away inside your handlebar, arguably the most stealthy way to carry a multitool and tubeless repair kit. By virtue of the blue, rubber o-rings (available in three different diameters to fit different bar thicknesses), each slides silently into the bar end where they are almost immediately to hand in the event of a puncture or other trail-side mishap.

There are two sides to the Lezyne Tool Insert Kit; the Multitool and Tubeless Repair Kit which can be purchased together or separately. The multitool side comes in three different sizes, so you can tailor it to your needs. The large and medium options are compatible only with flat bars, weighing a claimed 90g and 74g, respectively. The small is said to be compatible with drop bar handlebars too. It weighs a claimed 54g.

  • Large: Hex 2/3/4/5/6/8/10mm, Torx T10/T25/T30, and a Philips screwdriver
  • Medium: Hex 3/4/5/6/10mm, Torx T10/T25 and a Philips screwdriver
  • Small: Hex 4/5/10mm, Torx T25, and a Philips screwdriver

Then, there’s the tubeless repair side. This one is home to a tubeless tire plugger, reamer, and plugs. It weighs a claimed 34.5g.

Lezyne CNC Tubeless Drive and Tubeless Repair Kit

The Lezyne CNC Tubeless Drive has a longer hose thank some of this size. The overlapping handle and high volume design are said to provide efficient inflation for up to 30 PSI (2 BAR).

Lezyne’s CNC Tubeless Drive is a compact-ish hand pump combining a tubeless tire repair kit, CO2 inflator and a high-volume hand pump suitable for mountain bike tyres. The chuck is tubeless specific and flips for Presta, or a threaded Presta shaft (with the valve core removed) to provide more airflow when seating a tubeless tire.

The CNC Tubeless Drive Hand Pump comes with a 20g CO2 cartridge and five tyre repair plugs

The tire plugs, plugger, CO2 and inflator head are tucked away quietly inside the hand pump, threaded into the top of the shaft securely to prevent rattling. The gold piece between the CO2 cartridge and the inflator head is simply an intermediate component that joins the two for quiet and secure transport – it means you can thread everything together tightly without the risk of prematurely piercing the cartridge.
