Cotic updates their best-selling Jeht mountain bike with a subtle gen2 overhaul that sees the trail bike become a more refined all-rounder. Plus, it’s now UK-made of Reynolds steel recycled in the UK. Without changing travel, Cotic calls this new 140/150mm Jeht their “Goldilocks bike: Not too little, not too much. Juuuuuust right.”

The do-it-all trail Jeht is built to be versatile for however you ride. With 140mm of rear wheel travel, riders can pick from either a full 29er setup or a mixed wheel 27.5/29″ mullet to suit their riding style. And you can either match the rear with 140mm of fork travel, or slacken out the bike by about a half a degree with 150mm forks to tackle steeper, more technical terrain.

All-day singletrack rideability, yet still confident to head further afield for a bit more backcountry all-mountain riding.

A more sustainable mountain bike

Cotic admits that the changes to the gen2 Jeht are a “subtle evolution”.

Now making the Reynolds 853 front triangle in the UK at Five Land Bikes dramatically reduces the carbon footprint of the bike. Reynolds’ own environmental impact report breaks down why steel is such a sustainable bike-building material. But beyond that, according to Cotic, “by making the Jeht Gen2 in the UK, the front end materials travel 12,000 miles less than they would have, and cuts out one airfreight leg as well. Reynolds steel is also made from 100% recycled raw material. So, not only does steel give awesome ride feel, traction and performance when you’re on the trail, it’s also the material that’s kindest on our planet to make the frame from.” Read more in Cotic’s own Sustainability Statement, here.

What’s new?

That evolution didn’t mess much with geometry that already worked well. But Cotic did drop the bottom bracket height 6mm for even more stability, and better cornering grip. It also effectively raises frame Stack at least that same distance since the fork didn’t change. The result gives riders a more comfortable, more confident position and weight balance on the updated trail bike.

Like the other latest FlareMAX & RocketMAX bikes, the new Jeht also takes advantage of a stiffer, stronger 853 HD downtube. And with no extra weight penalty. There’s even a new bracing tube between the down & seat tubes just above the main pivot that boosts frame stiffness AND long-term durability.

The new Cotic Jeht 2 does tweak the suspension a bit, as well. It’s still a DropLink faux-bar design – a linkage-driven single pivot. But the new Jeht refines shock travel, with “increased progression across all sizes, which improves sensitivity and grip around the sag point, with larger sizes getting a more progressive kinematic to improve support for heavier riders“.

Rider fit also improves, adding a 5th intermediate size – now C1-C5 instead of S-XL. That means smaller, more consistent steps based on frame Reach. And shorter seattube lengths for the 3 middle sizes give more riders more choice, plus longer travel dropper options.

Numbers-wise, the OG Jeht’s LongShot geometry is mostly unchanged. The 64.5° headtube angle, steep seat angle, and rear center length are unchanged. (OK, technically the chainstays are 1mm longer at 448mm, now.)

In the days of integration, the new Cotic Jeht 2.0 sticks with a straight 44mm headtube for an external headset and tapered steerer fork. It keeps cables routed outside where they are easy to access and manage, with modular clamps down the top of the downtube. Plus of course, internal routing into the seattube for the dropper seatpost.

The Cotic Jeht gen 2 pairs a custom-drawn UK-made Reynolds 853 steel front triangle to a 6066-T6 aluminum rear end welded in Taiwan. CNC linkages and small parts are also all UK-made now, too. As is all painting and assembly. The new Jeht features a BSA threaded bottom bracket, ISCG05 tabs, integrated Cotic top chain guide, Boost spacing with a Syntace X-12 thru-axle, IS rear brake, and 31.6mm seatpost diameter. And there’s a max 29 x 2.5″tire clearance.

Cotic Jeht v2 – Pricing, options & availability

The new Cotic Jeht Gen2 is available starting today. Mid-sized C2 & C3 frames are in stock right away, with others available “very soon”. A big part of that is the new UK production. That means even when frames are out of stock, Cotic expects to get them back again in a meter of weeks, not months. Cotic assembles all bikes in-house to order, one at a time in the UK. That means you can get pretty much whatever you want (for a price). But it also means it takes a bit of time to build up your dream bike.

And there are plenty of other shock options available if you are looking for something else.

Ill take the XTR cassette, thank you. While the Garbaruk is alright. The XTR is a million times better and worth the marginal weight gain.

Lovely looking bike in so many regards.

Why do most of the mfgs of “cool” steel bikes seem to hate water bottle users?!
