Following the addition of the M20 and M13 multitools with tubeless tire repair integration, Crankbrothers have added a standalone tire repair package; the Cigar. It’s a compact tool that will plug holes in your tires where sealant has failed, reinflate it, and attach neatly to a bottle cage mount. Here’s a quick overview of the new Crankbrothers Cigar Tool.
Crankbrothers Cigar Tubeless Tire Repair
The Crankbrothers Cigar comprises a tire plug tool, 5 tire plugs, a CO2 inflator head, mounting bracket and storage case. The Klic CO2 adapter works with Presta valves only.
The aluminium storage case features a threaded top cap so you can screw a CO2 cartridge onto it securely.
The tire plug tool is threaded in two places. One lets it screw into the storage case, so the pointy plugging end isn’t exposed ready to impale anyone and anything. The other much smaller thread allows you to screw a CO2 canister onto it so that canister can double as a handle.
The Crankbrothers Cigar Tool seems like a neat addition to any pack-less riding set-up. It’s probably the most compact system we’ve seen yet, though I’d look to replace those narrow bacon strips with something a little meatier.
The only thing missing would be a cover for a CO2 canister – they get very cold very quickly on release of the CO2. You can pick up a small thermal sleeve for your canister, or just wear a thick glove to avoid potential freeze burns.
Pricing & Availability
The Crankbrothers Cigar Tool will set you back $29.99 / €29.99. Crankbrothers offer a refill package of 10 tire plugs for $4.99 / €4.99. The tool comes with a 5 year warranty, presumably on the longevity of the threads.
