Bruce Rosar, former director of the NC Active Transportation Alliance and a past president of the NC Bicycle Club, was killed after a collision with a Honda.

The driver, who was the only surviving witness, said Bruce inexplicably turned left in front of the vehicle while riding in Apex, NC.  Bruce was well known for being a strict advocate of cycling safety and safe riding practices.  Links (found on Cyclelicio.us) for more info after the break…

You need to update your information. The driver of the car was NOT the only surviving witness.

There were quite a few witnesses–some motorists, some cyclists, and some pedestrians. Many of the blurbs like this one that I have seen seem to suggest that there may be some question about the truthfulness of the driver’s story. But the reports are that every witness basically said the same thing: Bruce inexplicably turned directly in front of the car and the driver had no time to react.

The link that you have to the Triangle Cycling Forum has a couple of first person accounts from cyclists who were there.
