Would you love to ride a Cervélo S5 aero road bike that has been actually raced in the pro peloton? Maybe even one that won a stage in a World Tour race? Well, Team Dimension Data are auctioning off their 2018 road bikes, with the proceeds going to their longtime partners at Qhubeka who provide bikes to those in need in Africa to increase mobility and access to critical services.

It’s Dimension Data, the team’s sponsor and global technology service provider based in Johannesburg, that are behind this fundraising auction. And on the docket are twenty-one pro bikes – all team Cervélo S5 aero carbon road bikes that have been raced at the top-level of the sport and maintained by a team of pro mechanics.

The team rode S5s to a few pro stage race wins this season, including under Mark Cavendish at the Dubai Tour and Edvald Boasson Hagen at the Tour of Norway – both of whom have personalized bikes on the auction block.

Bike spec’s are generally team standard black & green or all-black S5s built up with Shimano Dura-Ace Di2 drivetrains, Enve carbon wheels on DT hubs, Enve cockpits & Rotor InPower power meter cranksets. Sizing is rider specific, and some get custom paint, so have a look at each listing to see the specifics. (They are the current 2018 model bikes, and not the newer 2019 S5 that we saw introduced with the sponsorship of Sunweb last month.)

Starting bids are around $2500 and include free global delivery, with a few already pushing up far beyond that price. The auctions run now though November 23, and all funds raised will go directly to Qhubeka who are working towards a target of distributing 100,000 bicycles by 2020 to people in need across the African continent.

More detail on the work Qhubeka does to mobilize people by bike (in exchange for work done to improve communities) can be found at: Qhubeka.org. So far they have already given out roughly 90,000 bikes since they started in 2005, a big part of which has been through awareness of their #BicyclesChangeLives campaign helped spread via their Team Dimension Data connection riding the Tour de France.
