Deda Elementi’s accompanying Superzero stem and seatpost debuted prior to the new bar and have been available for a while, but now the cockpit group is complete.
The new Superzero handlebar applies an aero shape to their RHM (Rapid Hand Movement) design philosophy to create a comfortable looking perch that may save a few grams of drag. Made of UD carbon fibers, it’s also fairly light for a deep aero bar at just 230g, and is available in three widths. But what really makes it special from an installer’s standpoint are the massive cable ports on its belly…
The 3D forged 2014AL stem uses a trapezoidal shape to make it torsionally stiff while weighing just 130g (11omm). It’s available in 10mm increments from 90 to 140, has a 40mm stack height and works with 31.8 handlebars. Rise is -8º.
The handlebar’s rounded profile at the outer edge of the flats allows for quick movement from the tops to the drops, which is what their RHM is all about. It also provides plenty of wrist clearance when in the drops, keeping your arms in a natural bend instead of working out and around the bar.
These massive cable/wire/hose ports were designed to accommodate all manner of routing and make it incredibly easy to fish everything through. If you’ve ever installed an aero handlebar, you’ll appreciate this.
The bars come in 42, 44 and 46 cm widths, measured outside to outside edge (not center to center).
The group also includes a full carbon seatpost with Di2 battery holder available. It’s a two-bolt design with 21mm setback and comes in 27.2 and 31.6 millimeter diameters, the larger of which weighs in at a claimed 216g. Length is 350mm.
Their new Squalo tape blends a special polymer with a closed-cell EVA foam to allow it to stretch to cover the bar smoothly. The surface texture resembles shark skin for reliable grip in all weather conditions. It’s 2.5mm thick at the center but is machined to just 0.5mm at the edges so it lays flat when overwrapped. It felt very thin, so if you prefer a less cushioned bar feel, the texture did seem rather grippy.
This braided pattern was protected under a raised glass floor in their booth, which looked very cool. Would make a great area rug, me thinks…
