Catlike showed a new line of premium natural Spanish leather shoes at Sea Otter Girona, and teased that new helmets were on the way. Now they’ve shown a revamp of the popular airy Mixino, plus two new distinctly Catlike aero helmets. Plus on the shoe front they have completely overhauled their Whisper family with great looking synthetic shoes for road & cross-country that offer color customization.

Distinctly Catlike vented, and now aero road bike helmets

Love them or not, you can’t mistake a Catlike helmet when you see one. While more and more helmet companies have started making aero road lids, beyond their wild-looking Cloud 352 we haven’t seen a lot of updates from the Spanish brand. But aero road helmets often look incredibly similar, and Catlike wanted to continue to stand out.

Mixino Evo supremely vented road bike helmet

Using their popular and iconically oval hole perforated Mixino as a starting point, Catlike developed the next evolution in an even more vented all around road and cross-country helmet. The new Mixino Evo steps up ventilation even more compare to the existing Mixino, with new open vents bringing air directly onto the forehead. Catlike says the new helmet is now open of 37% of its frontal area making it one of the most open road helmets available.

The Mixino Evo is available in two versions, with a MIPS liner for 270€ or without for 230€. Both combine a Graphene impregnated aramid structure inside the EPS foam shell to maintain rigidity in a crash. The new helmet also retains the light weight of its predecessor, now coming in at 210g (Medium), while getting a bit thinner EPS on the sides for a less bulk look, yet also offering a bit more side protection.

The standard Mixino carries over, now without Graphene for just 180€. Btw, the pink helmet at the top of the page is also a new one – the Origen Race that sells for a measly 90€ to match your new shoes. The leather lace-ups aren’t yet an official product, though we expect they will come later this year.

Kilauea premium vented aero road bike helmet

A big focus of the design for the new premium aero Kilauea was to retain the look of a Catlike, that could be easily spotted sticking out in the peloton. To do that the new helmet gets a large oval vent, front and center, that Catlike says provides plenty of ventilation, while smoother sides and top minimize drag.

The Kilauea is part of Catlike’s premium pro line and sells for 250€. It features the same Graphene reinforced aramid fiber net of reinforcement co-molded into the EPS foam shell as the Mixino Evo to balance openness and protection. The new vented aero helmet weighs just 225g (M) and comes in the same three size range (S-L) fitting heads from 52-60cm.

Vento affordable vented aero road bike helmet

The new Vento slots into Catlike’s second-tier Comp offerings, delivering vented aero performance, but with the more basic aramid fiber net reinforcement inside the EPS foam. It does however use the same premium pads and lightweight, easy-to-operate dial retention closure.

The Vento is available in two versions – with MIPS for 160€, or for just 120€ without – and with weight claimed at 235g for a medium helmet.

The new Mixino Evo will be available in October 2018, in a range of five stock colors, and also customizable with Catlike’s online configurator that lets you pick colors and even add your name for about a 20% premium and a round an extra 4 week lead time. The Kilauea will come a bit later in November, with the same color & customization options. The more affordable Vento will be available already in September in stock & custom colors.

All-new Whisper semi-custom road & mountain bike shoes

On the shoe side, Catlike has an interesting reboot to their current Whisper line up. The new shoes get a simplified upper design, using a super abrasion resistant synthetic upper that is more supple than in previous generations. The upper gets laser perforations for ventilation, and a pair of Boa dials for closure. It is available for mountain biking with a carbon sole, and…

also with a reinforced nylon sole that shares the same upper.

A road version of the Whisper will also be available with the same upper and a carbon sole. Pricing is expect to be under 200€ for the nylon sole, and around 250€ for the carbon shoes.

Most interestingly though is that the upper can be color customized just like Catlike’s helmets. Again we expect around 5 stock colors, then a customizer option that could see you mix and match more colors, and even print your name on them. Like the helmets, all of the shoes are made in Catlike’s Yecla, Spain headquarters, with customization adding around 20% to the final price and an additional 4-6 week lead time.

Mixino Legend nubuck leather road & mountain bike shoes

The premium Spanish leather shoes that we snuck a peek at Sea Otter Girona get a name – Mixino Legend – and September availability estimates. Still no word yet on pricing.

Mixino road and mountain bike shoes

Following up the premium leather shoes, the Mixino shoe family looks like it will get at least one or two road offerings with a synthetic upper, and possibly a mountain bike version as well. We haven’t seen these in person yet, but they look to carry over some of the aesthetic of the previous generation shoes, now with improved premium uppers.

Anyone see Jack-o-Lantern face when they look at the vento? In all seriousness I really like the shoes but my experience with Spanish brands (at least with dress shoes) is that they’ll be just as narrow as sidi’s
