In the buildup to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Holland’s Koga Bicycles has started Project Tokyo to bring their track cycling team into the future. While it looks very much like a TT bike, this is a purpose built track bike tuned to the individual athlete. Which means, each frame is custom built for each team rider, male and female.

The Project Tokyo track bike’s development included a force analysis to determine where the bike needed to be stiffer. What’s more unique is that they took aerodynamics into account, something you rarely see on track bikes. The goal, of course, is Gold, and you can follow the project at ProjectTokyo.nl.

Of course, the riders will need a regular road bike to train on, too, so they took their Kimera Pro carbon race bike and gave it a Japanese inspired paint scheme that’s beautiful…and team only!

Koga’s Beachracer has always been one of their more unique bikes, designed specifically for the small country’s very flat terrain. They host races on the beach, which are a big deal there, and so they’ve made a bike just for that for years. We’ve posted about it before, and honestly, it’s probably a massively capable “gravel” bike thanks to balloon tires and huge clearance with widely flared drop handlebars.

Now, they’ve created a model called the Beachracer Pro with flat bars, giving riders the option to sit a bit more upright over tougher terrain, should they find it.

The frame is shaped aluminum, paired with their own race-stiff carbon fork.

It also gets massive 60mm wide Schwalbe G-One tires on wide carbon rims. Drivetrain is Shimano Ultegra with an XT rear derailleur and 1×11 setup. Look for it later this year.

Always found the Koga Beachracer an interesting bike, one I wish I could justify owning.

The caption says the Beachracer uses an XT rear derailleur but it looks like the new Ultegra RX. If that is the case what flat bar shifters are matched to it?

Shimano makes non-series SL-RS700 shifters. Those are essentially XTR 11-speed flat bar shifters made to work with the cable pull of STI levers.

The SL-RS700s have been out for a few years now. They’re the most likely candidate as they’re the only 11-speed flat bar shifters Shimano makes.

EDIT – The SL-RS700s are the only 11-speed flat bar ROAD shifters Shimano makes.

As said above, Holland is a province not a country. It would be like me calling all of USA Texas

Really? When last have you seen somebody at world level not on an aero frame, not to mention disc wheels and five spokes?

Yeah. Caught my eye as well. As track riders we are all about aerodynamics. F**k weight, as long as it’s aero

Correct me if I’m wrong but that looks like a Shimano Ultegra RX rear derailleur unless my vision has gone bad.
