There’s nothing quite like the sound of a perfectly tuned bike, especially if it’s fitted with deep dish aero wheels. That whoosh-whoosh is somehow so satisfying. But if you’re running the wrong valve extender or haven’t used electrical tape or some other fix, it can easily be ruing by the constant clicking from your wheels. It’s not surprising that Silca’s valve extenders were a hit as they use an integrated elastomer ring to eliminate the rattle.
Rather than trying to engineer a competing product, Zipp decided to partner directly with Silca to offer some quiet valve extenders of their own. Offered in four different lengths, these are the perfect accessory for your Zipp 303-808s…
Appearing to have a slightly longer elastomer ring compared to the Silca branded extenders (above) at 24mm long, both come in the same 34, 45, 60, and 75mm lengths. Machined from 6066-T6 aluminum the valve extenders are the removable valve core type. Installation requires removing the valve core from the tube, threading on the valve extender, and then threading the valve core back into the top of the extender. This eliminates the possibility of the valve getting stuck in the middle of your extender. Elastomeric gaskets and specially coated threads result in zero air loss without the need for thread tape.
Sold in a kit that includes three extenders (two for the bike and one for the spare), Zipp Valve Extenders by Silca will sell for $45/ €47/ £36 and will be available this month.
