FAIR Daily Hook lifetime bungee cargo strap
Fair promises their Daily Hook straps will never get tangled in your bike, or lost, or poke you in the eye accidentally.
No don’t get us wrong, a set of bungee cords is cheap and versatile, although with a limited lifespan in practice. So, even though these Fair Daily Hook cargo straps are a lot more expensive, they look more like forever bungee straps with some added technical features.
Just as a refresher, FAIR bicycle is a small Swiss bike product maker that works on the Fair Trade concept where all the people that make their things are treated fairly, and their products work in a Circular Economy, i.e. their raw materials can be fully recycled into new gear. We first learned about them last year with a unique Drop Best clamp head to adjust your Reverb dropper post’s offset.
Now they are back with a better bike strap, combining a premium metal head & clip with recycled inner tube straps…
Tech details
The Swiss-made Daily Hook strap is built around a CNC-machined alloy hook sized to fit over standard or oversized rack rails. The hook gets a Swiss stainless steel gate spring, a grippy German rubber coating (the only part not 100% Circular), and a stainless steel backplate to secure the rubber strap.
The strap itself is an upcycled butyl bicycle inner tube, sourced from Swiss bike shops after having been replaced. Fair says the inner tube strap offers smooth & soft grip over whatever you carry in any weather, and they can be put back into Schwalbe’s recycling program if you ever damage them.
The 100% repairable, almost entirely Circular cargo strap weighs 80g, the same as a regular bungee.
FAIR Daily Hook – Pricing & Options
The FAIR bicycle Daily Hook cargo strap is undeniably expensive at 64 Swiss Francs/CHF (~$67€), and with that you get just one single strap with a premium metal hook on each end and a 1m long inner tube strap – stretches up to 242cm overall.
But for those of us (all of us?) that already have plenty of old tubes – 19-18mm road tubes apparently fit best – Fair will also just sell you a pair of the hooks only for 58 CHF (~$59€) and you can DIY your own cargo strap – to whatever length you need.
The Daily Hook straps and hooks are available direct from FAIR bicycle, and ship globally for another 20CHF including taxes & duties to many places. Remember I said they were expensive? On the upside, order more and shipping is still the same.
