German magnetic buckle and closure specialist, Fidlock, releases the new small but strong Cointrap helmet buckle. This new buckle uses Filock’s latest magnetic-mechanical technology and may end up on some of our favorite helmets in the future.

Weighing less than 8 grams, the new Cointrap buckle offers a positive, secure fastening concept that is lightweight and tiny. The Cointrap buckle guarantees secure fastening.

Flexibility & Comfort

A large contact area and two undercuts create a firm hold. The magnetic force delivers that high “ease of use” that Fidlock fasteners are known for.

It seems that the male part of the Cointrap buckle remains rotatable when it’s closed, This allows the bucket to move and rotate when the user moves their head. It looks to be a simple and highly effective design.

What are the Benefits?

Helmet manufacturers that adopt the Fidlock Cointrap buckle are spec’ing a lightweight, small, easy-to-use buckle. That would, in turn, become a major selling highlight for that particular helmet. I know I love my helmet, which uses a Fidlock buckle.

With the new Cointrap buckle,

  • You can hear the “click” when the Cointrap automatically and securely snaps shut
  • Enjoy the easy, and intuitive one-handed use
  • Notice and feel the flexibility and comfort when wearing the helmet

yes, I’ve been testing a new, high-end Rudy Project helmet with one of the FidLock closures. It’s surprisingly strongly closing.

it is. And since it has smooth edges around, it sits very comfortably under the chin. Plus it’s easy to operate with just one hand, even in thick winter gloves.

Too bad you can’t upgrade with that.
