Shown here is Easton’s new road carbon clincher with a 56mm deep rim versus prior (and still available) 38mm model. Stiffer and a bit more aero, it will retail for $2,000 and start shipping in early 2011.
It uses their proprietary ThermaTec braking track treatment to reduce heat buildup under hard, long braking and provide better modulation. The rim is molded into its final shape in one single process, which Easton says gives it better strength and impact resistance than competing brands. (remember that smashed Easton wheel that Hincapie finished a stage of the ATOC on?)
Bigger news: Shortly after the 56mm versions hit retail, they’ll launch a 90mm deep version aimed at triathletes. Those will have their R4 hubset with stainless steel bladed Sapim spokes and alloy nipples.
Full specs and more pretty pics after the break…
Despite the deep rim, the claimed weight is just 1670g for the set.
