A few years ago, Fizik introduced the Artica GTX shoes as part of their expanding winter options. The Tempo Artica shoes were for the cold and wet road rides. Fizik designed the Terra Artica shoes for the same conditions, but for trails rather than roads.
And now those cold-weather mountain bike shoes are getting an update.
Fizik Terra Artica GTX
Snow, sleet, rain, and freezing temperatures often keep us off the trails. But Fizik claims those conditions are manageable with the Terra Artica GTX shoes. The GORE-TEX Cirrus XT membrane is both insulated and waterproof, while still breathing. And, now, GORE-TEX’s membrane is PFAS-free.
On the inside of the Fizik Terra Artica GTX, a fleece lining keeps feet extra toasty in freezing temperatures. This soft, brushed fleece adds insulation and comfort. On the outside, a high-density PU-laminated upper uses ripstop fabric to retain high levels of durability.
Fizik uses a combination of a velcro ankle strap and the L6 BOA system to secure the shoes. Using the BOA allows riders to make adjustments to the Terra Artica GTXs more easily without removing their gloves.
And, at the very bottom, Fizik redesigned their outsole with better grip and traction. The X5 nylon outsole features rubber threads with a stiffness index of 5, down from the previous index of 6.
What’s Changed?
Well, a couple of things have. First, as we just mentioned, the outsole now has a stiffness index of 5. This reduction allows for a bit more movement and traction while hiking a feature.
Another change Fizik made is that the GORE-TEX used is now PFAS-free. PFAS, or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances, are primarily used in products to repel liquids and grease. Until more recently, many waterproof coatings used these PFAS chemicals.
In 2025, several states began to outlaw the sale of materials with intentionally added PFAS chemicals. This led to many companies finding alternatives to waterproof coatings with PFAS chemicals, including GORE-TEX.
Fizik also added a new colorway to the Terra Artica GTX mountain bike shoes. The shoes are offered in a Desert colorway to accompany Fizik’s Black and Purple offerings. The Terra Artica GTXs are available in sizes 36-48, with half sizes ranging from 37 to 47.
