A new pair of Fizik Powerstrap Aeroweave X MTB shoes brings lightweight airy construction, simple non-nonsense retention, and top-tier stiffness to XC and gravel racers. If you are looking for a walkable off-road shoe with unparalleled ventilation and race-ready carbon sole stiffness, these 2-bolt Powerstrap Aeroweave X will be right up your alley.

Last spring Fizik introduced the road version of these ultralight mesh shoes with their simple velcro straps, and I immediately wished for an off-road version. And now it’s here!

Originally developed to make their lightest mesh road shoes even lighter and more well-ventilated, now Aeroweave comes to off-road race shoes too with a new X1 carbon sole – specifically for hot summer gravel racing. The Fizik Powerstrap Aeroweave X matches a tough but open net-like mesh upper to a top-tier full carbon sole, and ties it all together with a couple of simple but efficient wrap-around velcro straps. No fancy boa dials, no unnecessary add-on tech. Just the pure essentials for hot weather gravel road or even cross-country race performance.

What makes them special?

These new ultralight Fizik Powerstrap Aeroweave X off-road racing shoes tick a lot of boxes in my book.

Aeroweave X lightweight mesh off-road gravel XC MTB race shoes, simple velcro straps
  • They leverage the latest in complex synthetic weaving tech to create a 1-piece open mesh upper that maximizes airflow while still retaining structure and foot support. Few shoes can compete with their ability to keep your feel cool in the hottest weather.
  • They pare retention back to basics with Fizik’s simple but effective wrap-around Powerstrap layout. Simple and effective, the special velcro straps make it easy to fine-tune your fit separately for the instep and mid-foot. And they are impervious to impact damage like most dial-retention solutions.

  • With a new X1 full carbon 2-bolt mountain bike sole, they offer race-ready stiffness. Plus, they now add grippy tread blocks, a bit of heel/toe protection, and even replaceable toe spikes for unavoidable hike-a-bikes.
  • In the end, they weigh just a claimed 265g per shoe. That makes the Fizik Powerstrap Aeroweave X some of the lightest off-road shoes you can buy.

This new Fizik Powerstrap Aeroweave X off-road racing – primarily gravel but XC-ready, too – shoes are now the lightest and most breathable in Fizik’s MTB shoe offerings. The new mesh off-road shoes sell for $350 / 330€, even a bit more affordable than the road version. Fizik’s PR so far only shows them in this pink and orange Coral color, but we suspect there will likely be an all-white version just like the road shoes, too. Get them now in EU half sizes 37-47, plus 36 & 48 – either direct from Fizik or their retailer bike shops.

They look awesome. But how can you keep them clean?

These look glorious, but why do most shoe makers insist on crushing my toes into a pointy little toe box? I don’t need “wide” shoes, I need human-foot-shaped shoes. Bont is close. Lake and Specialized dabble. If you make ’em, we’ll buy ’em.
