Fizik has unveiled a modern overhaul of one of their longest-running road saddles – a new waved ergonomic Tempo Aliante range optimized for longer endurance rides. Adapting the popular Aliante shape, the new Tempo Aliante saddles get a tweaked shape overall with improved pressure relief features and smarter supportive padding for better all-day ride comfort without sacrificing on performance.

Comfort was the priority of the new Fizik Tempo Aliante redesign after two decades on the road. The waved profile remains, best suiting a moderately flexible cyclist who doesn’t move around a ton while pedaling. But the saddles are incrementally larger & flatter for more even weight distribution, while shedding weight overall compared to the previously analogous Aliante Open saddles.

What’s new?

The most obvious change for upgraded ergonomics is an expansion of the Tempo Aliante’s cutout, now extending further into the nose vs. the Aliante Open for improved blood flow and pressure relief. To make that work, the new Tempo Aliante has a slightly wider, squared-off nose and generally flatter top combined with new dual-density foam padding.

The padding at the rear of the saddle is firmer for extra support & pressure distribution under your sit bones while pedaling regularly, but gets softer padding as you slide forward onto the nose to climb or put in a burst of extra power. And, the new saddle also continues Fizik’s WingFlex in the front edges of the rear wings of the shell to move with your thighs as you pedal.

The new generation of Aliante take advantage of all the recent innovation fizik has applied to its new saddles. From the importance of diversifying areas of comfort, to the collaboration with physios and bike fitters, bringing ergonomics to a new level“, describes product manager Alex Locatelli

The new Fizik Tempo Aliante saddle is now a millimeter longer at 277mm and in two slightly larger widths – 145mm & 155mm. It also is available now in three different spec levels depending on type of rails – R1, R3 & R5 – all with a carbon-reinforced nylon shell.

The top-tier $225 / 200€ Fizik Tempo Aliante R1 features full carbon rails, thankfully also in the same 7x9mm oval profile recently introduced in the 3D-Printed Vento Argo Adaptive 00 upgrade for more universal seatpost compatibility. The narrower Tempo Aliante R1 claims a weight of just 180g, or just 186g for the 155mm version.

The mid-spec $150 / 150€ Tempo Aliante R3 as usual offers typical mid-spec performance with 7mm round Kium tubular ti alloy rails, at claimed 220/226g depending on width. And the $130 / 110€ Tempo Aliante R5 is certainly the highest on value with the exact same durable synthetic cover, comfortable padding, and carbon-reinforced shell… just with ever so slightly heavier solid S-Alloy rails for claimed weights of 230 & 236g.

All new Fizik Tempo Aliante endurance road saddles are available now, wherever you buy Fizik gear.

What purpose does having the pointed tail serve (even more pronounced on the Arione)? Seems unnecessary and a place weight could be saved.
