Fizik adapts much of their top road racing performance tech off-road with new Vento Ferox Carbon mountain bike shoes. Calling it an all-road shoe based on its on-road racing inspiration, the new Vento Ferox cycling shoes seek race-level performance on gravel and trail, and over all of the shifting surfaces, loose turns & demanding changes in tempo that come with it…
Vento Ferox Carbon race MTB shoes
The new off-road shoe combines a lightweight laminated PU over mesh upper with a carbon outsole and added support from a dual-closure system with Boa adjustment on the forefoot plus a big Powerstrap velcro strap higher up.
Fizik wants it to be capable for a wide variety of scenarios, from technical XC descents to fast-paced Cyclocross races or all-day gravel outings. Foot stability and comfort lead the way as far as design priorities.
First Look
Here in the early days of the new Vento Ferox Carbon, details are still a bit thin, but we did already get our hands on them for a closer look.
What we do know is that the upper is the same “durable, tear-resistant” woven mesh over laminated polyurethane a lot of Fizik shoes use. The X1 Carbon on the outsole gets the stiffest rating in the brand’s MTB range (index 10).
Tech details
By now, Fizik has long used the Boa Li2 system to give micro-adjustment for the inner arch and forefoot. And combines it with their light Powerstrap for more easy adjustment.
The insole looks cushy enough to absorb plenty of bumps and mitigate bruises, but Fizik hasn’t said much about it yet. Stout lugs & thread-in toe spikes should help cyclocrossers or anyone else who has to dismount dig into loose terrain.
Claimed weight is 297g per carbon-soled shoe. The shoe comes in sizes 36-48 (37 to 47 available in half sizes).
