Foothill is back with another simple gadget to make cyclists’ home life easier – their new Trainer Tray simply clips into your existing GPS mount to give you a spot to rest your phone or TV remote while training indoors. Meant only to profiles a convenient shelf for the lightweight gadgets you need close at hand while riding the trainer, the small Trainer Tray works with most standard Garmin or Wahoo cycling computer mounts.
Foothill Trainer Tray, phone & remote holder for indoor training
Just like their various Offset hooks that store spare wheels in tight spaces, Foothill founder Doug Schaller tells us that Trainer Tray was a simple solution to him & his wife’s own practical need…
“Between California’s extensive smoke and fire season, riding indoors due to COVID, and doing trainer rides after recovering from injury, we found ourselves needing a better solution for keeping our phone, TV remote, and other [small] items within reach while riding – without taking up a lot of space.“
Tech details
What you get is a simple, lightweight 8″x6″ (20x15cm) aluminum tray with upturned edges and a grippy foam pad to keep your small gadgets from sliding around while you are cranking out watts on the stationary trainer.
The US-made Foothill Trainer Tray uses a reversible, 3D-printed bio-plastic bracket that twists into place with most 1/4 turn cycling computer mounts. Twist it on for your trainer gadgets, then simply twist off when it’s time to ride outside again.
Obviously (right?) not designed to be used out on the road or trail, you also should refrain from putting anything heavy on the Trainer Tray (lest you overload your out-front mount). And even then some ultralight GPS mounts might not be up to the extra load. But for most standard computer mounts, you should be able to get away with having your phone, TV remote, and maybe even a snack sitting just in front of you while you ride inside.
Foothill Trainer Tray – Pricing, options & availability
Both Wahoo and Garmin compatible models are available, and there are even mounting holes to attach a separate direct mount GPS mount if you also need to see your regular cycling computer while training. The Foothill Trainer Tray sells for $37.50 and is available in limited numbers now, either black or gray alloy finishes.
