In today’s installment of big automotive brands marketing questionable bikes, Ford Motors has released (renderings of) two eBikes using some classic monikers. Introducing the Ford Mustang and Bronco eBikes.

The new Ford eBikes aren’t made by Ford. Nope, they are manufactured and distributed by a company by the name of N Plus North America. As I checked out the N+ website, I saw that this is something they do, make bicycles for automobile brands. New to me. None of the pictures on the Ford site or the N+ site, for that matter, looked like real photos. They look to be renderings to me.

Regardless, I’ll tell you what I found out about them.

Ford Mustang eBike

Retail: $4000

Let’s start with the angles on the Mustang eBike. To me, they seem harsh and sharp. But Ford says they are “bold and chiseled”. Ok. They also say that “every line, curve, and angle has been inspired to evoke the sixty years of power and performance excellence you’ve come to expect from a Ford Mustang.” Yeah…

The Mustang eBike generates 750W of electric boost that can easily accelerate to 28mph (in pedal assist, Class 3 mode with rider pedaling). It also sports the “iconic sequential Mustang taillights.” It has an integrated, one-piece cockpit with a full-color display to display the various ride metrics.

It’s mainly geared to ride on the streets with a pair of semi-slick Pirelli Angle tires and dual suspension. It carries a 48V, 15Ah / 720Wh battery and boasts a claimed range of 60 miles. There are four power modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and Track.

It comes in Carbonized Gray Metallic, but for a $390 upcharge you can get it in one of 11 different “Ford-Inspired Paintwork” colors.

Comes in sizes: Small, Medium, and Large

Bronco eBike

Retail: $4500

The headtube/downtube lines and angles of the Bronco are pretty much identical to the Mustang. The looks of the bike get a little different at the seat and seat tube area, with the Bronco looking a little more equipped for rougher terrain. Ford does say that the Bronco eBike has “got the trail-ready performance to match its off-road heritage”. Also saying that the Bronco is “fully capable and ready for adventure”. Maybe?

Ford Bronco and Mustang eBikes with Bronco

The Bronco eBike puts out the same 750W of electric boost but also boasts 85Nm of torque. This would be great for those steeper climbs. Ford says that it has “G.O.A.T. (Goes Over Any Type of Terrain) inspired suspension.”

Anywho, the “GOAT-inspired suspension” or “marketing jargon” says it “lets riders maximize the bike’s power by keeping the wheels on the ground over small rocks, while the air-sprung fork and coil rear shock are ready to tackle more challenging terrain” So, basically like every full suspension bike on the market.

Nothing to see here, move along.

The Bronco eBike also has a moto-inspired saddle, which doesn’t appear to be adjustable? Maybe you’ll just be going so fast on the Bronco that you won’t want to sit down as you blast through the whoops with G.O.A.T. suspension.

It also comes spec’d with Pirelli Scorpion Enduro M Hardwall tires, helping you to get over the rough stuff. Braking is done by Tektro 4-piston hydraulic disc brakes for good stopping power.

Lastly, It comes in Area 51 (pictured), but for a $390 upcharge, you can get it in one of 11 different “Ford-Inspired Paintwork” colors.

Comes in one “universal” size.

Bronco Tech Specs

Both of these bikes are backed by a 2-year warranty. You can buy them online or in person at your local Ford Dealership. Ford says they are easy to assemble and comply with US eBike laws (seems vague). And also, that they are “made to order”.

Harley Davison must have done well with their E-bikes and now Ford wants to give them a go.

Suspension: High-performance air-sprung front suspension fork with 120mm travel” but it’s literally a de-stickered Rockshox fork… the crown and controls are exactly the same. Although considering they’re all renders I suppose it could just be a placeholder for their Ali Express fork.

At about 68 pounds for each model, they should use Super Duty instead.

Low weight, high strength, or affordability; pick two, because you can’t have the third.

It’s the only good way to do a throttle currently. I bet the majority of e-bikes being sold in the US have throttles, currently.

These bikes are a good example of why I hate ebikes. This is what ebikes are doing to the bicycle. They bring in companies that have NO love for cycling, not a hunch of what cycling is about, and change what is considered as a regular bike.
We are letting a bit of pedal assist ruin everything that makes bicycles so freaking awesome.

You think the owners of many big bike brands have much love for cycling? The bike industry is full of Private Equity yahoos and shareholder-run holding companies who don’t GAS about bike culture. Has been for a long time. PON, Kent, Frasers Group and so on.

Like PON, Kent and Frasers Group? Oh wait no, they’re regular bike brand owners. I’m sure they love cycling culture more than the $ though right?

How are people riding e-bikes influencing how you ride a bike? If more people ride e-bikes then it’ll result in more public money getting spent for all bikes.

You do you. Your bike doesn’t get any less awesome because somebody else chose something different. Don’t worry so much about what other people do.

Most people that buy a bike have no love for cycling and that’s ok. *Not really a fan of ebikes at all unless they keep people from driving. These bikes probably won’t do that very much

It’d be good to see some of the critical reviewing or cynicism seen here to some of the stuff bike companies put out as well. Genuinely.

Well, auto mfgs should never be taken seriously when they release a “bike”. It’s always been some hodgepodge of off-brand parts slapped together with a touch of non-cycling industry engineering. It’s as if nobody at the particular board meeting pipes up and says “hey, my brother-in-law is into cycling, let’s ask him!”.

It is very likely that Ford has absolutely nothing to do with these bikes beyond the names and head tube badge. This is standard practice.

When you see Ford launching electric bikes, you quickly realize that e-bikes are destroying the cycling culture….

What do people riding e-bikes for fun have to do with “cycling culture”? They can ride their bikes and we ride ours. What they do has no influence on what you do.

Do you think “car culture folks” also think people that just use a car for getting from point A to point B are destroying car culture?

Not Ford, it’s N Plus North America. It’s all in the article.

I didn’t pay 4,500 for my first mustang in 1971, and it looked a lot better!

There are a lot of buyers who don’t care about the engineering, and only care about the brand name. Their wallet and cash/credit will be quickly separated.
