Bikepacking Roots opens BIPOC Bike Adventure Grant applications – Back in June Arizona’s Bikepacking Roots announced their new grant program to help address racial inequalities related to access to outdoor experiences – The BIPOC Bike Adventure Grant. Now, the application process is open…
The grant will provide funding, equipment, and mentoring support as needed for Black, Indigenous & People of Color cyclists to pursue an adventurous experience by bike. Bikepacking Roots hopes their small step will help chip away at barriers to allow a more diverse group of riders experience their love of exploring the world by bike.
The fundraising effort started early this past summer, and due to the generosity of many engaged cyclists & industry members, it far surpassed their fundraising goals. Bikepacking Roots say they help off in opening up the application process due to the uncertainty around travel during a global pandemic, but at this point they figured it was time to go ahead so recipients could benefit from the support raised and make plans for new adventures.
The BIPOC Bike Adventure Grant awards will range from $500-3000 (or more), and will include trip planning and mentoring support from Bikepacking Roots staff and volunteers, as requested by grant recipients. Applications are being accepted no through Nov 8, 2020. And awardees will be selected by a panel of BIPOC adventure cyclists hired by Bikepacking Roots for the selection process.
