For whatever reason, there seems to be an abundance of new drop bar videos that hit the web this week. Rather than your typical highlights from a road race, crit, or cross course, these videos seem to skew towards the, uh, more radical side of drop bars. Case in point – Szymon Godziek’s backflip over the Tour de Pologne peloton in Poland. This isn’t the first time a rider has gapped the peloton, but halfway through the video you realize that he’s on a road bike…
Godziek’s backflip wasn’t the only excitement at the Tour of Pologne. Somewhere along the course of the sixth stage, a miniature pony made its way onto the road and joined the peloton. The internet was on the spot and didn’t disappoint with a name for the new contender – Pony Gallopin, though Tony Gallopin could probably take the pony in a break.
If death defying, controversial videos are your thing, you’re going to love the new clip from 100% Vittorio Brumotti. Pushing the limits of road bike trials (is that an official category yet?), Brumotti rides some absolutely terrifying lines somewhere near the Grand Canyon. It should go without saying that you shouldn’t try this at home – not just because one small mistake and you’re dead, but because the stunt is of questionable legality. It’s possible that the video was filmed outside of the park’s boundaries, but many people have pointed out that riding a bike off trail and filming with a drone are illegal in a National Park. Fortunately, I can’t think of too many people who would actually give this a try…
Finally, Chris Akrigg is back with his latest clip featuring the new Mongoose Guide. When we last saw Chris in Madison, he said he had a new edit on the way featuring something completely new – and he has delivered as usual. Chris still manages to throw in a few trials moves (and proves that even on drop bars he’s super human), but the raw clip does a great job of capturing the fun of new adventure bikes like the Guide.
I do truly hope that Vittorio Brumotti overcomes his self-esteem issues before he has a fatal incident. What purpose does it serve putting his life at risk? He’s like those wing suit m*rons.
Well aren’t you the Debbie Downer today. Assuming you actually ride a bike, there risk you take and a chance you could die every time you go out. This guy just has a higher comfort level with the amount of risk he takes. If it makes you uncomfortable then stay on the couch.
Congratulation, now that they got the attention they or Redbull wanted, we will see such stunts until a crash will happen. And when the crash happens everyone will complain how this could happen. Thanks a lot.

I would not even walk out on the ledge.
Chris’s video – absolutely brilliant. Easy to relate to, great images, fantastic location and no music. Really well done. Could have watched an hour of that.
Love Chris’ video. Man can he ride. I can’t help but think though this ‘gravel/adventure’ bike thing all looks a bit like how we started out mountain biking….
It’s like mountain bikes from the ground up, v2. Thing is, this time the focus might still be on keeping most of the speed on the road side of things. Either way, I think it’s a good thing.
Maybe some people just want low/no travel, semi mountain bikes with drops. It Doesn’t hurt full blown mountain or road bikes, so let ‘s see where it goes.
As for Akrigg’s video there, It basically seems like the montage for the perfect day.
During the Brummotti video recording, one snake took a byte on him. The snake immediately died!
Chris could shave some weight off that Mongoose if she just removed the saddle and seatpost. I don’t think he ever used them.
Props to the rider that managed to guide the pony off the course!
