Stevens‘ Vapor disc brake cyclocross bike comes stock with an alloy frame and mechanical drivetrain. One of our readers, Mike Groves (who as best we can tell is aka Mikkidisco) has hacked it to run Di2 with internal wiring.
Anyone could tape some wires to the outside of the frame. It takes a certain type of rider to throw the warranty out the window and start drilling, and we salute those that do by featuring their bikes right here! Push some buttons and see how he did it…
Out of the box, the Vapor comes with a very upgradeable frame. It has a tapered headtube, carbon fork and mechanical disc brakes running full length housing – so they’re ready to go hydraulic when the day comes.
A single hole was drilled into the downtube a few inches down from the head tube to bring the control wire down to the junction box. From there, holes in the BB shell were made to reach the battery and distribute its power. The wire going into the chainstay is headed to the rear derailleur and pops out of a hole at the end of the tube.
Inside, we’re hoping he’s put something in place to keep the crank’s spindle from eventually wearing down the wires.
