It’s a bittersweet day for one of our favorite trials riders. After an amazing 38 year run, Hans Rey’s partnership with GT Bicycles has come to an end. Unfortunately, this isn’t all that surprising after GT announced that they would be “pausing” the brand this past December.

According to Hans, his contract has been officially terminated which finally answers the question of what the move would mean for his incredible tenure with the brand. For now, Hans’ future is up in the air, but we’re pretty sure he’s not done yet.

Thanks for the memories, Hans!

WOW! Hans was a main reason I got into mountain biking back in the early ’90s! He is a legend and inspiration to many! I look forward to what comes next for him! Good luck to you my friend!!!

End of an era. Hans Rey is the only rider I queued to see to get a poster signed, like a star-struck kid. I was in my late 30s at the time! Hans was an inspiring rider when I started out in MTB in the late 80s. Thanks for doing what you do, Hans No Way Rey.

With everything that went on with that brand, I am surprised Hans lasted as long as he did. Maybe, he had a long contract and the company decided to just run out the clock. It will be interesting to see what Rey’s next move is.

What is going on at GT? Why are they not sponsoring anyone anymore? More money problems again?

Hans let me ride his trials bike at a GT open house around 1994, and because of that moment I got hooked on trials, bought the team modified bike, and for several years after that rode with and competed with a bunch of really cool southeast trials riders—back in the day! Thanks Hans!

I got into trials partly because of Hans Rey and his videos. One thing that he really emphasized was that you could do trials on a normal mountain bike- that was inspiring because it made it so much more down to earth, not to mention affordable.
Looking forward to seeing what Hans’ next chapter is!

I recall Hans riding along the top of a fence panel at the ‘91 worlds in el Ciocco – I was agape! What a legend
