Located in Amsterdam, eBike component company Enviolo is rolling out its new Utility Hub. The hub features a continuously variable transmission, and it’s built to handle up to 120 Nm of motor torque with a 400% gear range.

It’s designed for heavier, more powerful e-bikes like cargo bikes, longtails, trekking, and SUV bikes, as well as S-pedelecs. The new Utility Hub replaces the older Heavy Duty and Extreme hubs in Enviolo’s lineup. That makes a line that features four hubs: Urban, City, Trekking, and Utility.

The Utility Hub’s wide 400% gear range allows riders to haul cargo or tackle steep climbs while in a manageable gear. When the bike is unloaded, riders can keep pedaling comfortably. Allowing S-Pedalecs to ride all the way up to the 45 km/h (28 mph) assistance cutoff comfortably without spinning out.

The hub supports both manual and automatic interfaces. It comes in modular and solid-axle versions as well. Rated for a total weight of up to 300 kg (661 lbs), it covers most loaded cargo bike setups.

Envilolo used a development process that included a new test protocol. Envolio says the test validates beyond what the Utility hub itself requires. And, gives some headroom as motor torque ratings continue to climb across the industry.

E-bikes are getting heavier and more powerful. Enviolo rebuilt the hub from the ground up with a new cover. They’ve also revised the housing and updated internals to match where the market has landed. So, for riders or brands looking for a transmission that keeps up with today’s high-torque motors, the Utility Hub might be the answer.
