Following in the footsteps of their first bike, the ALFA, Allied Cycle Works will show off the full custom carbon fiber ECHO frameset at NAHBS this weekend. At 800g for size 56 (claimed), it’s very light for a full custom tube-to-tube bike that lets you choose the geometry. That’s particularly impressive considering their stock geometry ALFA comes in at a claimed 875g for the same size. It’s also relatively affordable, coming in at $3,800 for the frameset, which includes their 340g full carbon fork. The icing on the cake? They’re guaranteeing it’ll be delivered within 60 days of finalizing your geometry.

The ECHO is made with American-sourced Mitsubishi MR60H intermediate modulus and HR40 high modulus carbon fiber, starting out as eight custom cut and mitered tubes before it gets joined and wrapped into a complete frame.

There’s clearance for up to 700×28 tires

It’s compatible with any cable routing…mechanical or electronic. Or, of course, wireless. Price includes a naked clear coat, but you can customize the paint if you don’t mind waiting a bit longer.

You can also run it through their custom configurator to build it into a complete bike. Like the ALFA, the frame will be 100% made in house in their Little Rock, Arkansas, facility.

The industry is finally moving towards heavier and more stable frames, these things are just a “we can do it ” thing my 83kg would crack at the first pothole. It looks magnificent anyway..

Pinarello has been making this argument for a decade, now.

The differences between these high end carbon frames is so marginal, I don’t see why everyone wouldn’t chose the *better riding* frame, which weighs 200g more.

If your frames are ‘cracking at the first pothole’ under 83kg (183lbs), then you’re buying the wrong brand of frame

$3800 should not be considered “relatively affordable” for a bicycle frame. And this is coming from someone with sworks bikes.

Hahaha, your sworks is NOT custom. $3800 is pretty damn good for a custom geometry carbon race frame!

That being said, all other US made tube to tube bikes are significantly more, so gram for gram compared to its peers it’s more affordable. Compared to what typical consumers in the bike space consider affordable is a different conversation. I remember back in 2003/4 when the Parlee Z3 was $3,200. 🙂

Calfees start at a lower price (Luna), but to get something similar (custom, 28c clearance) you’re looking at ~3500 which is ballpark.

Na, doesn’t do it for me.

Not as affordable as some are telling. Want a special paintjob? Extra $ and more waiting. Special geometry to your liking? You’ll have to wait a bit more, again.

Geometry variations aside: the frame itself doesn’t look particular special either. In fact, it looks like an OEM from China. It just doesn’t has personality.

HIA doesn’t seem to be able to respond to any of my multiple inquiries. I don’t think they’ll be around very long if they’re not able to handle basic business operations.

I have had very good contact with these guys. I bought a shirt, because yeah it’s more affordable than the bike, and needed to switch sizes. I got multiple responses immediately and it was surprisingly smooth for a new operation.

Allied please launch that disc road bike so I can get a bike to match my rad shirt!
