Hutchinson’s new Squale 26×2.3 is a narrower version of the 2.6 Squale DH tire with new knob placement geared toward enduro riding.
Developed with input from team riders Mick Hannah and Fabien Cousinié, the knobs are large and aggressive all the way across. Their Race Riposte triple rubber compounds are spread across to optimize traction, rolling resistance and sidewall support. The center and transition knobs are a medium grip 50A with ramped fronts and flat backs. They say this design does double duty by rolling forward faster but also providing good braking performance. The side knobs are a softer 42A for better grip, and the surface between them all has been textured to help reduce slippage on rocks and roots. The sidewalls get a sturdier rubber and Hardskin protection to hold everything in place, air included.
It’s a steel bead, tubeless read design that weighs in at a claimed 780g. Retail is $89 and should be in stock now. A wider 2.5 version is coming in a couple months. Detail pics below…
