I’m probably alone in this, but using a carbon fork really ruins the look for me. It also begs the question – if carbon is so much better than steel for forks, why not use it for the frame too? Oh yeah, that’s been done. And dang if it’s not a heck of a lot lighter too! Don’t get me wrong – I love steel frames, but make mine with a steel fork please. Otherwise I’ll just go all carbon, thank you.
I work for a paint company which makes me a huge paint nerd so I was exited to see some Pegorettis at Bespoked Bristol. In the flesh they were actually pretty average, nice designs and all but the finish would be rejected where I work. Flat spots, orange peel, bits that hadn’t been polished, build up on edges, poor masking and even some over spray.

to be clear, these aren’t some generic Chinese forks. Unhappy with other carbon offerings, Dario labored a couple over years over the fork design himself and has carefully overseen production. I can attest, since I have one on my 2013 MXXXXXO, that it is a phenomenal fork. Not only functionally, but aesthetically.
My 2005 Marcello has a Reynolds Ouzo Pro carbon fork (spec’d by Dario for the bike) that was made in the USA and is still going strong 8 years and 10’s of thousands of miles later. I have considered replacing it with a steel Pegoretti fork simply on aesthetic grounds, but have been loathe to spend the $500 just to make the bike heavier. It is BY FAR the best riding, best handling bike I’ve ever been on – the Pegoretti mystique is based on a very real superior frame design and build.
