Paulding SORBA Joins Disney’s ‘Give a Day, Get a Disney Day’ Program

SORBA Board Meeting Slated for Tsali
We’re turning the typical SORBA Board of Directors Meeting into a festival weekend at the Nantahala Outdoor Center in Bryson City, NC! The Board of Directors, the Regional Leadership Advisory Council, the Subaru-IMBA Trail Care Crew, and mountain bikers of all stripes will converge for a weekend of mountain biking, including trail education, riding, a party and more riding!

Gateway Trail Systems Increased Recreation Offerings
Working in locations across the United States, IMBA Trail Solutions staff is helping shape the next generation of trails. A variety of innovative projects, including the youth- and family-friendly trails systems IMBA calls Gateway Trails are scheduled for completion this year. Trail Solutions team leader Chris Bernhardt says, “The demand for Gateway Trails has grown steadily. The concept behind these projects is to bring mountain biking recreation closer to millions of potential riders, as they can be built in small parks at a reasonable cost, and with a minimal environmental footprint.”

IMBA Pushing for Continued Bike Access in Recommended Wilderness
IMBA recently conducted meetings in Washington, D.C. with key congressional leaders and federal agency personnel. Productive discussions with Chairman Raul Grijlva (D-AZ), Congressmen Peter DeFazio (D-OR), and Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO), among other members of the House Natural Resources Committee, as well as meetings with Forest Service officials, provided IMBA with the opportunity to strengthen support for continued bike access in area designated as recommended wilderness.

Alabama Bills Would Create Trails Commission
Companion bills filed in the Alabama legislature (SB 258, HB 376) would create an Alabama Trails Commission to foster widespread development and links for of green and blue-water trails throughout the state. Focused on health, family and tourism incentives, the bills call for the proposed commission to coordinate local needs, including goals and leadership in trail design, operation, build-up and maintenance for recreational activities such as hiking, biking, running, horseback riding, motorized uses and water sport.

SORBA Woodstock Gets the Green Light for the Taylor Randahl Memorial Trail System
The wait is over! SORBA Woodstock received approval from the US Army Corp of Engineers (USACOE) to start building the Taylor Randahl Memorial Trails at Olde Rope Mill Park in Woodstock, GA. The City of Woodstock, working with the Greenprints Alliance, has secured $150,000 in funding to build the proposed 10-mile trail system.

GATR’s Got You Covered
The Gwinnett Area Trail Riders (GATR) are forming a National Mountain Bike Patrol group. If you like riding your bike, helping other people, being involved in the management of your local trails, learning and sharpening such skills as outdoor first aid, trail side bike repair, off-road riding and communication, then IMBA’s National Mountain Bike Patrol is for you! Not only will they train you, the GATRs will save you some bucks, too! GATR is also hosting the 2010 Dirty Spokes Duathlon Race this year at Tribble Mill Park in Lawrenceville, GA, and GATR members receive a discount on race fees, $10 on an individual entry, $15 on a team entry.

Chattanooga Partners to Gift Bikes, Raises Funds for Trail Expansion
On Tuesday, Jan. 26 at 2 p.m., Cloudland Canyon State Park was gifted two mountain bikes by the Lula Lake Land Trust, SORBA-Chattanooga, private donations, and the Chattanooga Trek Store. The bikes will be used by the park manager and rangers to patrol the park trails including the soon to be constructed Connector and Five Points area trails. Also, SORBA-Chattanooga officially kicked off its 2010 fund raising campaign with Wine For The Climb, a wine and cheese event held on January 14 at the Outdoor Chattanooga building. The event drew 150 people raising approximately $9,000 for the trail expansion project, in ticket sales, donations, and a silent auction of a piece of artwork created by artist Celeste Sneed. This amount represents about 17 percent of the funds necessary to fully complete the Raccoon Mountain trail expansion.
