Jones Bikes had a few new goodies in their booth, like a 135mm front hub custom made by Pauls, giving the wheel equal dish on either side and a good wide stance for lateral stiffness.  The bike shown above is the 29er 3D SpaceFrame model in Titanium (also available in Steel).  The tube layout offers enough vertical flex to make take the edge off without adding the weight of full suspension.

The front fork uses Jeff Jones’ original design to offer sharp handling and straight tracking with virtually zero front-to-back play.  Read “more” for additional pics (including the new hub) and specs…

The frames and geometry are designed by Jeff Jones, but manufactured by Merlin.  The traditional-shaped steel forks (shown further down) are made by Vicious Cycles.  For the 3D SpaceFrame, a 29er complete bike usually weighs in somewhere around 21 to 25 lbs.  Frame prices start at $4300 for Ti and $2450 for steel, and includes frame, fork, headset, seatpost and binder.

The “truss” fork’s triangles keep it in line, while the multiple vertical tubes keep it from flexing forward or backward.

This set up basically uses two top halves of a headset, though Jeff mentioned something about Cane Creek doing a specific headset for him.

Jones also makes a traditional double-diamond frameset, also available in steel or ti, and you can get his big, original fork or this regularly shaped steel model made by Vicious Cycles.

All of the bikes come with his new 135mm hub, shown above and below.

The bikes and forks are made to run really, really big tires, like this fatty.  Between the frames mild vertical compliance, 29″ wheels and/or fatty tires, it adds up to enough cush to make the bikes all-day comfortable.

cool bike…

but in the end

if the price is the same as full suspension
and the frame does all these things to aid like a full suspension bike
doesn’t that remove some the SINGLE SPEED LESS IS MORE from the equation?
