INTERBIKE 2009 – Easton’s new EC 90 TT deep dish carbon wheelset, EC 90 carbon clincher, and Haven Disk mountain bike wheels.

EC 90 TT (above). Easton increased the side walls from 56mm to 90mm for the new EC 90 TT. The Easton narrow-flange R4TT front hub, which reduces frontal spoke area by 50%, is the same. The new EC90TT displays lower drag than the Zipp 808 at 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20 degree yaw angles (comparison provided by Easton).

The set weights 1424g, 30 grams lighter than the Zipp 808, and is still 9mm deeper in rim profile. Thanks to Easton’s Variable Nipple Bed (VNBTM) Technology. This process of internally tapering the rim bed eliminates excess carbon between spoke holes and allows for a sharper inner edge. Less weight, improved aerodynamics with no loss in strength.

  • MSRP:$1900 and come with SwissStop pads

EC 90 carbon clincher, and Haven Disk below…

2010 EC 90 SL Carbon Clincher

The 2010 EC 90 SL is Easton’s 1st carbon clincher. To combat over heating they are using a proprietary ThermaTecTM brake track treatment. The treatment is also supposed to help provide a smooth consistent braking and eliminate the pulsing, grabby feel found in other carbon wheels.

The entire rim including sidewalls is molded into their final shape, which means no post-mold machining that would weaken the structure.

  • WEIGHT: 1460 g, no rider weight limit
  • HUBS: 18h R4SL front, 24h R4SL rear; Custom Grade 3 ceramic bearings
  • RIM: Easton 38mm carbon clincher
  • SPOKES: SapimTM bladed black
  • MSRP: $1800 SwissStop pads included

2010 HAVEN DISK

The Haven disk has an internal rim width of 21mm and weighs in at 1650 grams. And the UST-compatible rim requires no rim strip, eliminating more weight. Haven’s unique Threaded Eyelet System employs an alloy nipple that’s threaded both internally and externally. The wheel uses standard straight-pull spokes and can be trued like a standard wheel.

The Haven hub is optimized for 15mm thru axles, but also compatible with standard 9mm quick release mounting via included adapter. Haven wheels are UST ready. Haven is also available in 26” or 29”.

  • HUBS: 24h M1 front, 24h M1 rear; works with 15mm or 9mm QR front ends

Schucks…if only they could find some way to make the Easton logo a little bit larger on the TT wheels. I’m not sure it’s visible from the International Space Station yet. 😉

Agreed – although I read it as “ASTONE!”. What the hell is that?

The person dropping that cash to get that advantage wants that attention those will get. At least the graphic is tasteful. I have seen them in action – they look great.

Shed Master – perhaps you have a deep desire to meet Aston Kurcher? I will take Demi and the Easton hand builts anyday!
