INTERBIKE 2009 – BMC showed off a redesigned Four Stroke FS01 mountain bike and the totally new Team Machine SLR01, their new top of the line race-level road bike.  It’s their lightest full-carbon frame and uses a new full carbon fork (which the 2010 SLX01 also gets to replace the previous aluminum-steerer model), and it’s tapered from 1.125″ to 1.25″ rather than the now somewhat normal 1.5″ lower bearing.
It’s sold as a frame/fork/headset/seatpost combo, and the seatpost uses a unique rubber wedge that tightens from the top of the post rather than a normal seat collar.  This may or may not save any overall weight, but it sure looks sleek.  More pics of this, and the Four Stroke, after the break…
This is how it’s sold, and there’s a red color option that replaces all of the white stripe graphics with red.
The bottom bracket is BB30 and shows a bit of woven carbon on the otherwise UD frame.
The Team Machine SLR01 frame has carbon cable stops and carbon dropouts, too.  The seat stays are extremely thin and use a stepped design with a mix of unidirectional and woven carbon fiber to offer some vertical compliance while remaining torsionally and laterally stiff.
The seatpost on the right is the new version that uses a rubber expansion section.  Why?  Because you don’t want to expand an alloy wedge inside a carbon frame…bad things would happen.
The redesigned 100mm-travel Four Stroke FS01 gets a new rear triangle design to increase rigidity and a slacker (69.5º) head tube for more confident handling when bombing downhill.  It’s available as a frameset only for $3,295.
The rear triangle is a closed system (meaning completely closed triangles) with forged alloy pivots on top and bottom.  The very large, square seat tube keeps things stiff, but requires the use of a bolt-on Shimano front derailleur.
The full carbon frame means everything, even the disc brake mounts, is carbon.
