The Blunt SL 29er rim comes in at 420g, or 1,575g as a Pro-level complete wheel.

Given the overwhelming reaction to Jagwire’s aluminum-look cable housing, we here at Bikerumor know that you share our magpie-like attraction to all things shiny.  Let it be known that rim and wheel builders Velocity are here to feed that need.  Now making their rims in the USA, Velocity have a wide range of extrusions and finishes that can be purchased individually or as complete wheelsets.  Hit the jump for the road tubeless A23 wheelset and a new disc-friendly offset profile for that rim.

Velocity’s wide-but-light A23 wheelset looks like direct competition to HED’s Ardennes in the ride quality and weight department (1,400g complete).  The price, however, is a very reasonable $800.  What Velocity also add is road tubeless compatibility- something that should make them even more smooth rolling and give tubular devotees another reason to consider swapping.

For those of us who’ve been around for a while, there’s something very ‘right’ about a drilled, polished hub.  Velocity’s quick release looks to be inspired by Shimano’s latest- no bad thing.

Coming soon, this offset A23 profile should make for stiffer and more durable rear and front disc wheels by equalizing (to some extent) spoke lengths and tensions.

That’s a sharp looking rear hub.

Made in USA? Thought I’d never see the day. Guess I’ll build some wheels now.
