A little while back, Huffy decided to make another serious push in the pro-level BMX space. And today, the brand continues its commitment to the sport with a new freestyle frameset developed in collaboration with the Huffy Pro Team riders. The Sledgehammer BMX Freestyle frame is a professional-grade BMX frame that compromises nothing.

The Sledgehammer took two years to develop with input from some elite athletes and riders, and is the brand’s first pro-grade freestyle frame since the 1990s. Huffy says the frame is built for “progression, performance, and designed to equip the next generation of BMX talent”.

With the launch of the Sledgehammer, Huffy continues to show its long-term commitment to the sport of BMX. Huffy uses a methodical approach to designing and testing frames. This results in a product that balances performance, durability, and authenticity – and it’s ready for you to take it off some sweet jumps.

World-class park rider and Huffy athlete Nick Bruce gave his direct feedback and input that shaped prototypes throughout the design process. Bruce’s mentee, rising junior rider Huck Kurinsky, also played a key role in ensuring the 18″ Sedgehammer frame size would support younger riders.

4130 for the Win!

The new Sledehammer frame is constructed with 100% 4130 chromoly. It comes in two unique colors: Transparent Teal and Transparent Black, both painted over raw chromoly. The frame also has nice attention to detail. For example, the debossed seat tube features the Huffy Freestyle wordmark, a really cool touch.

The tubeset used to make the Sledgehammer was designed by Huffy engineers to eliminate gussets while remaining light and strong enough for BMX Freestyle.

The Sledgehammer has been a dream project of mine for years,” said Jason Jewell, Director of Product Engineering and Development, Huffy. “Even before we had a full BMX team, I envisioned a frame that could truly stand up to the demands of riders at every level. Once we signed Nick in February 2024, development kicked into high gear, and the collaboration with him and our team of riders brought that vision to life. Every detail of the Sledgehammer was built with riders in mind, and I’m proud that we’ve created a frame that not only performs at the highest level but also inspires progression in the sport.

Huffy lives! Ron, I am so old, that the venerable Huffy Scout was the semi-attainable dream “10-speed” when I was a young teenager.
