The International Triathlon Union (ITU) announced yesterday that they’ll be launching a new World Championship Series for 2009, with monthly events from March through September. The goal is to get the top athletes in Triathlon competing head-to-head consistently in order to a) build excitement for the sport, b) provide a predictable TV schedule and c) allow for easier scheduling for teams, managers and athletes.
Previously, the top athletes would compete in various events throughout the year, potentially only really meeting up at the World Championships single final event. Read the official press release here.
