JBG2 DPS claims to be world’s lightest dropper post at 240g

All of a sudden it seems to be raining ultra light droppers. About the same time that Tyler was writing up the story on the 295g FRM dropper post yesterday, I was reading an email from Oscar from JBG2 DPS about a very similar looking dropper post. However, Oscar claims that JBG2 DPS was first, and that their post is lighter. Because carbon.

Both the JBG2 DPS and the FRM use a design that is the opposite of a traditional dropper – the seat mast cap rides on the outside of the main tube which allows for an ultra light build. The posts have nearly identical specs with a total length of 400mm and 60mm of dropper travel. Posts are available in 27.2, 30.9, and 31.6mm diameters, too, however the JPG2 has a slightly better 95kg (209lb) rider weight limit. The biggest differences include the use of carbon fiber and a cable entry point that sticks out at 90° from the seatpost.

Those small changes add up to a 240g claimed weight, though they show one post on the scale at 220g without the cable, housing, and remote. Either way, it’s lighter than the FRM post by at least 55g – though at €1,049, you’re certainly paying for it. We’re told that they do not have a web store at the moment, but posts can be purchased by contacting JBG2 through email.

lol exactly, that said one day we might have something. The FRM should not be that hard or expensivz to manufacture and could inspire alternatives.

That’s the ugliest cable routing ever. Where are you supposed to run your cable, out over your top tube? By now we should be looking at wireless, remote actuated dropper posts

It looks like the post is peeing on the top tube… silly.

They must design a version with internal cable routing!

This sentence is not true “Both the JBG2 DPS and the FRM use a design that is the opposite of a traditional dropper – the seat mast cap rides on the outside of the main tube which allows for an ultra light build” Both seatposts has the same upper part inside the down part if we are refering to the structural parts. Just the FRM and JBG have an external upper part with the lip to protect the internal structural part as it has holes…

Wait what. I thought that cable entry point was for demonstration purposes. Yeah, that wiring probably won’t cause any issues, get snagged, or mess with the aesthetics of a bike at the level and cost that would use such highcost post. I would suggest back to the drawing board.

Could be cool if the cable was somehow routed internally through the tt.

a dropper relying on carbon clearcoat as the surface that guides the seal? “race day only”
