While watching our family’s most viewed cable channel, NickJr, I saw a commercial about the St. Jude’s Trike-A-Thon. It’s a week-long curriculum that your school or group can use to teach bike safety that ends with a trike-a-thon fundraiser that benefits the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Dora ‘the Explora’, along with her sidekick Boots, is this year’s spokesperson. This would be a great way to teach kids cycling safety and to teach them about helping others. In this case, helping other kids get healthy so that they can go outside and ride their bikes too.
Click ‘more’ for more info on how to organize the event for your school or group.
If your school or group is interested in putting on the event, all you have to do is sign up and you will receive learning materials to help organize and carry out the event at no cost to you. Kids are given lessons on cycling (bike, trike, and “riding toy”) safety and asked to help raise money for St. Jude’s by taking donations or a pledge of a certain amount of money per lap during the trike-a-thon. Check out the NickJr site, or St. Jude’s site for more information.
