Looking for some added facial protection on your next trail ride? While helmets with removable chin bars were all the rage just a few years ago, now we seem to be heading into an era of super light full face helmets that offer full face protection but with trail helmet breathability. Adding to that category is the all new Kali Invader – a light weight full face helmet with a permanently mounted, “motorcycle rated” chin bar.
While a removable chin bar is convenient for different riding disciplines, the additional complexity of the attachment mechanism often results in a heavier helmet that may or may not be DH certified for the chin bar. Because of that, we’ve seen a new crop of full face helmets recently that use a dedicated full face design but with a lighter, more ventilated shell than your average DH helmet. That makes it a better option for anyone looking for facial protection that isn’t riding park laps or racing DH.
The Invader uses a “unibody chinbar which passes the motorcycle chinbar test,” which is to say, it will actually provide protection for your face should you have to use it. An airy design with a massive number of vents should help keep you cool, while inside the helmet you’ll find Kali’s LDL (Low Density Layer) and Composite Fusion construction for added protection against rotational and linear impacts.
Offered in two fixed shell sizes, the Invader adjusts to fit multiple head sizes with the included replacement padding kits. Additional features include anti-microbial padding, an adjustable visor, and a Fidlock buckle with weight coming in at just under 640g for the XXS-M size.
Offered in four different color options, the Invader sells for $225 and is available now.
