Kickstarter Roundup: Crankpump Almost There & Indiglo’s Dual GoPro/Garmin Mount

This one’s a bit of a recap/update in that we’ve featured both of these brands before. CrankPump’s campaign is coming to a close in a couple days and they need a last little push to meet their fund raising goal. It’s a nifty little mini CO2 inflator that hides inside your crankset’s spindle, keeping weight low on the bike and out of sight. If you’re the type that likes to mount more things to the outside of your bike, read on for Indiglo’s new dual handlebar mount to fit two things in the space of one…

The Indiglo 5 bicycle headlight we featured recently made it through funding successfully, but apparently there was quite a bit of interest in the dual function mount. Enough so that they’re now offering that as a standalone item. The top mount will fit virtually any Garmin cycling computer and the Wahoo RFLKT. The bottom section will fit anything that has a GoPro style bolt-thru mount as well as their headlight. Garmin Virb and Shimano cameras are listed, but it’s the standard GoPro mount.

Whats wrong with keeping your small co2 canister in your jersey pocket or saddle bag.
Just my thought but why waste you money

A definition, from Wikipedia: “A pump is a device that moves fluids (liquids or gases), or sometimes slurries, by mechanical action.”

It’s not nifty, either.

Someone is going to buy the pump first, then make their component decision around it, instead of vice-versa.

“Well, that is a steal for those XX1 cranks, but you see, I got this pump…”

@Ron G, I never thought about what the technical definition of the word “pump” was. I guess a CO2 cartridge should be called just be called an “inflation device” then. Thanks.
@m: some people don’t like having a saddle bag and the nice thing about having COs in your frame is that you can’t forget to pack it (have done that many times). The only thing missing is a way to store a spare tube. Suppose that would be possible with some of the massive downtubes on carbon bikes.

Updated, but still the most stupid pump, sorry, inflation device, out there. Those levers, sorry, tire zips, look useless. If you had a tight fitting bead that actually needed a lever those things would destroy your fingers.

And you still have to carry a tube, maybe a patch kit and tool somewhere, so its hardly changes how you carry stuff.

@m – pumps are waste-free, infinitely replenishable, and can even weigh less than a pair of cartridges, never mind the chuck. So there’s that.

I think its a cool idea. If anything to have a extra cartridge. I run the smallest saddle bag I can and get only a tube, one cart. and levers in there. The levers? hmmm not sure about those some tires are pretty hard to get on and off.

The only “waste” for a CO2 cartridge is any waste/cost of producing CO2, the canister, and the inflator head. The empty canister can be recycled. There is waste/cost involved in the production of pumps, too.

@wheelz, the spare tube in the down tube is a great idea. You could carry a small hammer and some sort of carbon repair kit in your jersey pocket. that way when you get a flat you just crack your down tube open and pull out the tube. Then once you’re done all you have to do is repair the carbon and you’re ready to go. Ill call it “Tube-ena-TubeWattsSaver™”. Patent Pending

I like the dual mount for the headlamp. Inflator in your crank still silly.

@ifbikes the TryeZips are wedges, not levers. That’s why they can be so small – they don’t use length to obtain mechanical advantage, they use shape. They work fine on the toughest tyres I’ve found.

Do INDOGLO not realize thei mount is pretty much a RaceWare Direc rip off, minus the fact this one is not 3D Printed? RaceWare have been making this exact mount forever? Or is unoriginal ideas the way to go in the industry now?

I dunno about you guys, but personally I’d rather not integrate a tool into a part of my bike that is actually doing something mechanical like preloading my bottom bracket bearings. I know that after you get the pinch bolts tight the preload cap shouldn’t be necessary, but…I dunno. Something about a pump/bolt rubs me the wrong way.
