Paul Budnitz, better known as the creator of Kidrobot toys, has just launched a line of high end titanium urban bicycles.
The frames are built around a split toptube design with flex designed into it to offer a smooth ride. They also design the titanium handlebars, stems and seatposts, all of which are made alongside the frames at Lynskey’s Tennessee factory. Budnitz has been building bicycles for himself since 2006, and Paul Budnitz Bicycles was founded this year to offer “top-end bicycles for daily use.”
According to a write up on BikeBiz, “in 1995, Budnitz created the first feature film to be edited on a home computer, an achievement chronicled in Wired magazine in 1996. He started his first business while still in college, selling clothing he co-designed to museum stores worldwide. In 1997 Budnitz began a MiniDisc business that, by 2001, had become an $7 million business run on software Budnitz had written himself. In 2002, Budnitz sold Minidisco and founded Kidrobot in a California garage. Kidrobot now produces 60 new toy projects each year. There are Kidrobot retail stores in New York City, Los Angeles, San Francisco, London and Miami.”
Bike No.2 is shown above, make the jump to see No.1 and some detail photos…
No.1 is more of a cruiser, and No.2 is the commuter. Both retail for $5,500 and both are completely sold out on the first run. The next run is slated to be ready this winter.
