At risk of turning into a Lance Armstrong fan site, here are some better pics of his time trial bike for this year’s Tour de France, along with the description from Trek…what can we say, between Trek and the man himself, they’re masters of self promotion.

“Featuring subtle flat black paint offset by glossy contrast details including Newson’s “Stroboscopic” rear wheel design that appears to pulse as it spins, the bike brings a new level of design sophistication to the most legendary cycling event in the world while simultaneously flying the flag of cancer awareness in Livestrong yellow.”

The bike is Trek’s new prototype TTX, which you can see more of in a previous post.  Hit ‘more’ for another photo. Same bike, different angle…

As we mentioned, the bike was designed by Marc Newson as part of the art exhibit “Stages” that will open in Paris on July 16.

STAGES is an anti-cancer art show that opens its doors to the public on July 16 at the prestigious GALERIE EMMANUEL PERROTIN in Paris during the Tour de France. Conceived by Lance Armstrong and Nike CEO Mark Parker, the show represents an unprecedented effort to engage the creative community in a visual dialogue about the cancer burden. More than twenty of the world’s most prestigious and cutting-edge artists, including Richard Prince, Cai Guo-Qiang, Ed Ruscha, Rosson Crow, KAWS, Tom Sachs, Andreas Gursky, Catherine Opie, and Aaron Young, have all contributed original works taking inspiration from the cancer issue or Lance’s personal mission in an effort to more deeply engage the art world in fighting the disease.

Lance is an unlikely arty type of person. He’s managed to amass a decent art collection including a Francis Bacon or two.
Who’d have thought the macho Texan sportsman would be into all that?

Doped he was. As doped he’ll be remembered.
