The new Lazer Jackal MIPS adds another high-performance trail protection option, earning the brand’s tenth 5-star protection rating from Virginia Tech’s independent safety tests. Mixing broad coverage over the back of the head with a MIPS anti-rotation liner and unique 7-piece polycarbonate shell, the Jackal seems to offer the best protection possible for your mountain biking head.
Lazer Jackal MIPS, premium protection mountain bike helmet
Lazer calls is “extra protection for extra fun”. Much like last year’s Impala, this new top-spec Jackal offers a balance of protection, ventilation & light weight, just now with a more complex in-mold construction and increased coverage over the back of your head.
The Lazer Jackal MIPS helmet uses pretty common polycarb shell over EPS foam construction, with an anti-rotation MIPS liner inside. But the Jackal steps it up a notch molding seven individual shell segments into the foam, said to allow the helmet to better isolate & absorb impacts in a crash. And that 10th 5-star VT rating is said to be the most from any single helmet maker, confirming Lazer’s commitment to next-level helmet safety.
Trail helmet – Tech details
The new Jackal MIPS is a fully vented mountain bike helmet, with vents specifically designed to stow your sunglasses, plus a textured goggle grip on the back to work with any eye protection. Its visor also has wide-ranging adjustability to get out of the way when you want to stow goggles above your brow on the climbs.
Those vents also include strap-on attachment for an optional helmet camera mount (or GoPro-style mount light), designed with “anti-intrusion tech” to keep your head protected in a crash. (That means it passes safety certification with the mount & GoPro installed.)
The helmet also gets glove-friendly, easy-to adjust Advanced Turnfit System dial retention fit, with a new lightweight magnetic buckle that snaps securely in place by itself.
