I like how he teaches Duncan Phillpott. I became a fan of Duncan’s work last year. He seemed to have sensed what photos have good impact. Without a good understanding, you can’t really teach, but teaching also reinforces and verifies your understanding, and Sven doing so displays just how much wisdom he holds. Good to have such people to look up to, in order to set standards high enough to demand progress from your own skill. Not much of a photographer myself, but I wonder if you can compare the difficulty of progressing in photography to progressing in mountain bike skills–which is harder?

I just shot a race and despite spending several days on the course during the week leading up to it, on the day of the race I had to “adapt” and ditch all my previous spots and plans. Interesting how that works. All my “adapted” shots came out great, the ones I “forced” (and had worked out previously) were useless.
