Lightweight EdelHelfer carbon fiber water bottle cage

The Lightweight Edelhelfer (German for “Precious Helper”) water bottle cage tips the scales at a claimed 18 grams.

The crisscrossed retention loops mimic the carbon spokes on Lightweights’ wheels. It comes with two small alloy screws to hold the “Reserve Tank”, as they’re calling it, to your bike. Now, matching your handlebar tape, tires and kit will no longer suffice for a complete look. Your cage must match your wheels.

UPDATE: Price is around 65€, which may vary slightly depending on VAT and shipping.

Bontrager XXX Lite cages have been 18 grams for quite some time… And are easy to come by… And they don’t include any ‘reserve tank’ nonsense drivel.

I save around 250 grams by filling my bottle with gasoline. TONS of energy also!

Very sharp and clean looking but if it’s like any other Lightweight product it probably costs an arm and a leg!

€65 That’s how much it cost.

“Edelhelfer” sounds better than “Precious Helper” (I hope it doesn’t sound as cheesy to the Germans) and “Leicht” would be a bit less obvious than “Lightweight”.

Or just dump the lettering and let the design (or at least the ^price) speak for itself.

Or you could buy a Ti King Cage that weighs just 10 grams more, will last forever, at probably half the cost of this piece of plastic that I can’t imagine would survive more than a single crash, or a couple seasons even without a crash: http://www.kingcage.com/products-waterbottle-cages.html

Is cage weight something you really think about?
The difference is less than toast you had at breakfast.
Also the weight of the water in a bottle is will cancel out any savings.

Yes, this is something that weight weenies think about. Heck, there’s even a whole forum dedicated to weight weenyism called, uhm, Weight Weenies. As you might imagine, they are keen on building up light bikes.

nice, but i like to have the best of each world considering the price: i would go for lightweight wheels and arundel cages. If i were rich… Otherwise ebay carbon ones are great, or a 10$ aluminium one. Or the king ti, those really rock.

The retail price is irrelevant. Current Lightweight owners can’t really pass up on a matching set of relatively cheap cages, and your LBS would probably fall all over itself to give you a pair if it would close a $4500 sale.

^ – Exactly. The weight isn’t the point, the brand is.

Same crappy Tacx style hold mechanism. *yawn* When someone makes a cage out of carbon that can do with my 15$ plastic race lites or the plastic arundels do, I’ll be interested.

18 grams. the best is that is still weights 18 grams with a full bottle because the bottle flew out.

There is nothing wrong with 18g carbon cages, unless you’re poor but, if you can afford $5000 wheels you can afford $100 bottle holsters. Also, I have seen carbon cages outlast carbon frames (and collarbones) in crashes, so you can keep your heavy ti cages on your heavy ti bikes.

The new Specalized / PureFlo water bottles are super light and nice and flexy so, more imporant than 10 grams, you can yank them in and out of most cages without having to pay much attention to lining it up properly.
I would think in a race situation, quick, hassle free access without having to fiddle around, look down, etc would be more important than a few grams?
