Now a tradition in its 5th year — Panaracer announced its annual Limited Edition Gravelking tires for 2022. How limited are we talking? Well, let’s just say they make a single run of them, and once they sell out, that’s it. And believe us — they will sell out.
The Limited-Edition color tires roll on the same ZSG tire compound technology, anti-flat casing, and 120tpi construction but come in unique limited edition colorways.
The Limited Edition tires have a tread for every gravel condition, available in the original Gravelking, the GravelKing SK (semi-knob), and the GravelKing SS (semi-slick). All three models come in 700 x 32c and 700 x 38c. GravelKing tires 32c and over are tubeless compatible.
What are the colors?
For 2022 the colors will be Ginger and Astral Blue. Ginger represents a healthy, root-based color that will highlight many different bicycle color combinations and graphics. The Ginger colorway will stick out in the bunch and blend in perfectly with the terrain.
The second color offering is Astral Blue, steeped in the calm Zen of a twilight sky and a bit of classic cycling nostalgia. The Astral Blue will match most bikes and pull out the subtle blue tones in most paint jobs.
Jeff Zell, Panaracer’s Global Go-To Guy, says: “This is the 5th year we’ve offered these Limited Edition colors for the Gravelking, and each year the anticipation and demand grow. These colors are a fun way to set your bike apart and put a set of race and ride-proven tires on that perform as well as they look. Sometimes people miss that these are truly limited editions. We make them once a year, and once they’ve sold out, that’s it. We won’t be making them again.”
What Panaracer Gravelking tire should I get?
Depending on your riding style and race/ride conditions, you should be able to find a Gravelking that works for you.
The Gravelking Slick has minimal tread and would work best for all road to light gravel. The file patterns across the surface give it some bite, but not too much if you are in wet conditions.
The Gravelking SS (semi-slick) has a reasonably smooth center but a row of dots on the side like a dry conditions cyclocross tire. The low profile keeps it rolling fast, and the side knobs can get you out of trouble when you sink in too deep. The SS would be the tread that can cover most gravel, but you might want to go to the SK when things get chunky.
Last but not least, the one that started it all, the original Gravelking SK (semi-knob), has a mix of bars and dots to gain traction but keeps a low rolling resistance by having the centerline knobs tightly spaced together. This tire can do all the gravel and keep you rolling towards the finish smoothly.
