The Luna women’s cycling team has retooled their focus for 2009.  Rather than traverse the globe for UCI World Cup points, they’ll be focusing a good bit of effort on the new U.S. Mountain Bike Cup national series and stage races.

In addition to Olympians Georgia Gould (USA) and Catherine Pendrel (CAN), Alison Dunlap will come out of retirement for a few select cross country races and then a full cyclocross season starting with ‘Cross Vegas at Interbike.

Does this mean that Catherine Pendrel (2nd overall for UCI Worlds in 2008, I believe) won’t be able to defend her ranking and go head-to-head with Marie-Helene Premont (1st overall for UCI Worlds in 2008) for the over 2009 title? I’m assuming we’ll still see her at Mont St. Anne and Bromont, but how will her US racing affect her UCI World Cup points?
